Justin Bieber released “Roller Coaster” on November 25th and since it has sparked some controversy within the electronic dance music realm. At first ear-glance it sounds like the young Pop / R&B superstar ripped the chord progression on “Roller Coaster” from Eric Prydz’ 2008 released titled “Pjanoo.”
Take a listen:
There are no solid production credits for “Roller Coaster” on the internet. DoAndroidsDance reported that Rodney Jerkins produced “Roller Coaster” – he has also produced records for Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Brandy, Destiny’s Child – but aside from that information they also cannot find any sample clearance.
Prydz has yet to come out and make a statement so maybe our community is over reacting, or simply listening to closely. But can you blame us? It’s hard to not point fingers and make assumptions when you have Will.I.Am and Flo Rida ripping dance records on a regular basis.
