With the current global situation being what it is, many festivals have transitioned to a virtual setting to connect with their fans. While many of these streams are driven purely by the music, LiB differentiates itself by including their full repertoire of activities, from classes to speakers and comedy, and of course the music. They take their music a step further by stitching 3D renderings of their stages over some of their performers, while bringing the high production value to others. Standout sets include Clozee, who debuted her highest production set yet with professional lighting and an ambiance of plants that complemented her tribal, world base driven music.
Tokimonsta’s set transported viewers to a virtual LiB land, complete with a intricate 3D render of an authentic DoLab stage, dancers, and 360 degree view of the entire set up. Powered by Vita Motus Design Studios, the team behind a number of impressive stage designs such as EDC BassPod, Middlelands Main Stage 2017, and a number of notable tours, this was one of the more sophisticated digital renderings of a festival that viewers have seen this season. Saturday’s headliner Tycho was billed as a DJ set, but to the viewer’s delight it was last minute moved up and changed to a live set. It was filled with his signature warm, smooth synth sounds that left listeners bathed in the relaxing soundscape.
Sunday saw notable acts such as Random Rab, Mr. Carmack, and The Glitch Mob take the virtual stage. Carmack threw down his typical hip hop & trap beats, electrifying listeners and bringing the heat. The Glitch Mob then turned things down with a downtempo glitch set, creating a serene ambiance and allowing one to decompress from all the stress and craziness of the world. It was a truly magical end to an incredible weekend of music and learning.
