Dillon Francis, electronic music’s favorite goofball, announced today via his Twitter handle and Instagram account that he has signed a deal with Columbia Records. Columbia is a historic company founded over one-hundred years ago and has signed names like Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, and the Rolling Stones to name a few. Dillon is the latest addition to a growing list of electronic music artists that include Calvin Harris, Krewella, Cherub, and Daft Punk.
This signing has had a lot of fans concerned with his involvement with Diplo’s record label Mad Decent, but Dillon put those worries to rest tweeting, “I have not left Mad Decent they are with me still all the way thru it’s Mad Decent X Columbia.” He also addressed one of the issues with signing a big record deal saying, “It’s insane that people are calling me a sell out and I haven’t even put a record out to compromise the integrity of my music.”
Signing with a big company like Columbia has its positive and negatives, and we are excited to see where Dill Fran will take this opportunity. If his previous work has any indication then we can expect big things from him in the future. Specifically, he has mentioned he’s been working on putting out an album and judging by the new tracks that he dropped in his Ultra and Coachella sets, it will be heavy on the moombahton with lots of fun weird vibes all over the place.
