Everyone knows DJ BL3ND bought Facebook fans. He has 3,000,000 likes which is more than Hardwell, Kaskade, Diplo, Porter Robinson and Nicky Romero combined. Hard to believe for a guy who couldn’t support a solo tour and doesn’t even have a wikipedia page.
So at the IMS Engage: Social Media Panel, Diplo hints that BL3ND may have purchased some of his fans and alerts everyone that he’s a bigger name. Eventually he backtracks on the buying after BL3ND’s manager Steven Haddad calls him out from the audience. PLUR move Diplo, we like it.
That however didn’t stop Kevin Kusatsu (Diplo’s manager) from telling Haddad to shut up. I guess Kusatsu sees no point in Haddad trying to defend the obvious.
After the panel, Kusatsu and Haddad had some words for each other that eventually ended in blows. The men were forcibly separated and continued to go after each other.
We get it DJ BL3ND… you or someone in your organization bought the fake likes that eventually channeled real people to your page and some of them actually like your music. I don’t see anything wrong with this strategy… but 3,000,000!? That’s a lot.
Building a brand on any platform that you don’t own is dangerous, especially facebook where it’s getting more and more expensive to actually reach the fans who like your page. Also if you’re going to game the system, it’s usually best to avoid being so flashy about it.
We’re all in on #TeamDiplo.
