Dirtybird has done it again with another killer event down at Carson Creek Ranch in Austin, Texas. Their summer city-hopping BBQ tour touched down south this past Saturday to enjoy the sun, funky beats and lip-smacking grilled goodies. We couldn’t wait for the day to start after reading up about their last event in L.A., check out our review and photos here.
As the flock began to arrive, we strolled over to the stage to kick it off in classic Dirtybird fashion of a bumping B2B of VNSSA and Steve Darko. We weren’t sure if the heat was coming from the sun or the bangers they were throwing at us, from their energetic mix of Will Clarke’s “Feeling Good” to Darko’s own “Whistle” and the latest Dirtybird heater that has been making the rounds “Bury Me at the Club”. VNSSA was sure to take the time to cool us off with water guns as we worked up a sweat. Before leaving us, the duo played out their latest collab track “Wavy”, which first premiered on VNSSA’s curated “Get Roasted” playlist.
We took a break from the heat coming off the decks to grab some BBQ from chef Philip Speer and quench our thirsts from one of the specially named cocktails from the bar (the Shiba San was our favorite). We popped over to the Sizzle Stage to win our Austin BBQ Badges in a water balloon challenge. Dirtybirds could also help clean up around the site and earn the highly coveted Grill$on Badge, (RIP). Throughout the event, fans could catch the Best in Show competition with Claude VonStroke and VNSSA as the judges as well as a proper comedy roast of Steve Darko.
Christian Martin came up on next on the decks and didn’t hold back from taking us to the darker side of Dirtybird. With guttural bass juxtaposing classic house melodies, Martin brought out some of the best that we love about this record label. We also got some drum and bass love that really showed off his production dexterity.
We grooved away into the sunset with Ardalan and Walker & Royce. Ardalan brought his eclectic tastes to the decks, smacking us with heavy synth work from tracks like his collab single with Justin Martin, “Yonder” to playing around with rhythms his own, “The No Yeah”. By this time the stadium seating was full of the flock and Walker & Royce took the reigns. The party was in full swing and the duo brought the animals out of us. With hits like, “WORD”, and Chris Lake’s “Lies, Deception Fantasy”, the dance floor was in a fury.
As soon as their set ended we got a celebratory Shiba San drink as our favorite French Dirtybird stepped up on stage. He had the crowd bouncing, shuffling, cheering and and any other crazy Dirtybird antic you can think of. We got all the goodies, from his seductive, “All I Need”, and Will Clarke collab, “Give it to Me”, to his vivacious bass spectrum of “Okay” and “Chance”. Needless to say, Shiba San destroyed his set with perfection.
The sun was down, the lights were up and the bass reverberated throughout the ranch. It was time for our lord and savior, Claude VonStroke. Cross our hearts and hope do die, the mastermind behind the Dirtybird madness floored us with his commanding performance. With a mischievous grin, father Claude gave us an extra hour of dance floor and kept us in frenzy. Favorites like “Wallay, My Bae”, Westend’s “Detonante”, and his most recent banger, “Getting Hot”, bounced across the airwaves and the flock got their boogey on into the night.
Dirtybird came through with another successful BBQ. With the flock quickly growing here in the state of Texas, we can’t wait for our next meetup. Dirtybird has one last city to hit for the summer before Campout. You can find tickets to their Brooklyn BBQ here. Dirtybird has announced dates and the first lineup phase for Westcoast going down in October. You can find the details here.
