Dirtybird Campout East Coast is fast approaching, and while we are all busy with finalizing our campout outfits, who’s team we’ll be on for the planned games, and perfecting our tent villages, we also have to have a playlist to fit into the background. Looking through the lineup, there are a lot of heavy hitters in there, but one that we keep close to our hearts, and is an absolute standout, is the captivating Mija.
Those who are not too familiar, Amber Giles is the femme fatale behind Mija, sucking in new fans with each appearance. Listeners know her to play across all kinds of genres in her sets, whether it’s mixture of some poppy dubstep and deep house, to happy hardstep and nu disco. She is always a must see on any festival docket, harnessing a sense of unpredictability and creativity. The genre chameleon skillfully shakes it up as much as her hair color, with a flawless effort and an intimate knowledge of both musical balance and sound production.
The Phoenix, Arizona native got her start promoting for raves at 17, with her kickoff into the scene with signing Skrillex to an event before he broke out on the main airwaves. Her first introduction to the festival circuit was Bonnaroo in 2014, where Skrillex was driving by her Sunrise set on the Burning Man cart and ended up throwing down on a b2b set. From there she took on Burning Man, TomorrowWorld and touring Mexico in just that year alone. Her career took off, with appearance requests skyrocketing and dropping hit after hit on OWSLA including “Crank Dat” with Ghastly and Lil John and her remix of Major Lazer’s “B2GETHER”. In just the past year, Mija has performed at CRSSD, EDCLV, Nocturnal Wonderland, and Gold Rush to name a few as well as dropping her happy hardstep and drum n bass inspired EP Time Stops.
Mija will be taking to the decks at the inaugural Dirtybird Campout East Coast next month. She absolutely makes a spot for herself on any list, whether it be an eclectic, bright sum up like Shakey Beats in Atlanta or a house head’s paradise like her FK A Genre takeover at Dirtybird Campout West Coast, where we got to see other sides of the transformative artist. Check out her set from the last campout here.
To familiarize yourself with her discography, we’ve left a few of our favorites down below. We highly suggest making it to her set, because coming from experience, it will definitely be something unexpected, original, and full of infectious energy. Be sure to pick up your tickets here and we hope to see you down in the glades.
