This coming Friday will surely be one for Orlando’s history books. Four promotion companies have united to bring Disclosure to the House of Blues. The show will include an opening set by rising producer Samo Sound Boy, full-fledged production, and a live performance from the talented brothers. The House of Blues has grown to become a premier venue in Orlando, hosting acts such as Phoenix, Excision, deadmau5, and more over the past few years. The venue is more akin to a concert-hall than a club, adding to the atmosphere that the live set will provide.
Most events tend to be thrown by one or two large promotion companies. For this show, Live Nation, Disco Donnie, Vizion 1, and HTG have all united to organize the event and the results will surely be satisfying. Both Live Nation and Disco Donnie are renowned for their nationwide events but HTG and Vizion 1 have made great strides in building upon the EDM scene in Orlando. Vizion 1 focuses upon booking the artist, coordinating the event, and and managing production. They have worked with Live Nation, Insomniac, Ultra Music Festival, and Winter Music Conference among many others. HTG embodies the best work in both small and large scale production. From working on lighting, audio, and visual areas on shows at club Firestone to constructing the jaw-dropping production for EDC Orlando, HTG has set a precedent for full-fledged production design.
Both companies have been working on shows for over a decade and will definitely ensure that Disclosure’s show will spare no expense. To top it off, Vizion 1 will be giving away free Counterpoint tickets after the show; be sure to stick around for a chance to win.
Bringing Disclosure to Orlando demonstrates a great effort on part of all companies involved. Disclosure was perhaps the biggest rising star of 2013 and their album topped our top 10 EDM albums of last year. They have become leading innovators in the UK Garage genre, masterfully layering silky smooth vocalists over groovy yet nuanced melodies. While 2013 could be labeled as the year of big-room house and trap, Disclosure surprised everyone by returning to the roots of dance music: no drops, no hackneyed lyrics, but blissful dance anthems that get everyone’s feet moving. A live set also stands apart from what most EDM fans now expect from shows. As opposed to using a mixer or laptop to mix tracks, the Disclosure brothers implement live drums, guitars, and vocals to perfectly capture their distinct sound. In a way this show will draw more similarities between a rock band rather than a DJ set; live instruments have become a refreshing delicacy in EDM concerts.
Samo Sound Boy will also provide an opening set, one that should deftly set the tone for a night full of future garage. While his music may not be as popular as Disclosure’s, his interpretation of the genre will offer an interesting foil and serve as the perfect opening set.
If you were on the fence about going to this show, you may be out of luck. The event has recently sold out through Live Nation and the House of Blues completely; only tickets on stubhub remain. The demand for this funky duo has clearly exceeded expectations, which reinforces the hopes of all promoters involved: to successfully bring a very unique and influential act to Orlando.
Doors open at 8 P.M. and the show starts at 9 P.M. Anyone hoping to get a good spot should probably get there early, especially since the show has sold out. Disclosure and Samo Sound Boy will be redefining live dance music on Friday; do not miss out.
