3LAU Interview
WRR – So Dance Floor Filth was huge. To me it had the best flow out of all the mashups eps that I’ve heard since the last girl talk release. Whats been the overall reception to the release?
3LAU – DFF definitely rocketed me to where I am today, and the comparisons to Girl Talk are extremely flattering, though I can’t say I ever had that intention! I think the album was huge for me, definitely responsible for all of the attention I’ve been getting lately, all of which is very exciting.
WRR – Unfortunately the show in DC was cancelled and I didn’t get to catch you. Can you give us a little insight to your original production which we looked forward to.
3LAU – It’s called Moons, aside from the two originally produced tracks on the most recent EP (Drive and Knocked Down) this one is a little bit more where I feel like I’m moving, pretty big room ravey.
WRR – Whats it like managing full time student- having a girlfriend- and raging your way to the top of the scene. Take us through a day as Justin Blau.
3LAU – Funny you ask, it never really hit me until recently that it’s a lot to have on my plate all at once. My girlfriend and I have been dating almost 2 years, she keeps me sane I think haha. I’m starting to scale down my classes so that I’ll have some more time for music, which is really nice, especially cause I’ll be touring so much in the spring!
WRR – With the summer off from school, what are your touring plans. What can fans expect regarding catching live sets?
3LAU – I’ll be everywhere! But I’m most excited for my trip to Mexico to perform at electro beach with Avicii, DJ Aoki, Calvin Harris, and Dada Life. I do a lot of really different stuff live, so if I’m in your city, def come out!
WRR – You’re coming around at a very exciting time for electronic dance music and you have the opportunity to really leave your impression on the scene. What do you want to be known as and how do you want to be seen in the eyes of the community?
3LAU- I’m not really sure yet, but it is definitely an exciting time! I guess as my originals come out I’ll know more, but I’m definitely a big room kinda guy.
Also exciting: We’ll be featuring a more in-depth look at Electro Beach PV next week including interviews from the founders and what to expect from the event. It is the must visting Spring Break destination for EDM Fans.
