The Dub Rebellion Celebrates 5 Years; Hosts Brand New Mix & Contest

On August 10th five years ago Darek Desrosiers posted a video from Zomboy’s Game Time EP on his newly created Youtube channel “The Dub Rebellion”; since then the channel has grown to over 165,500 subscribers, all while being managed by Darek alone.

To celebrate its coming of age The Dub Rebellion is running a sweepstakes, which ends August 17th, where all the channel’s subscribers are entered to win a Subpac speaker system.  Of course it almost wouldn’t feel like a birthday without some dope tunes to fuel the party, but fear not, The Dub Rebellion has you covered with a hour long mix from Shiverz DaButcher.

The mix stays true to the hard hitting style that long time fans of the channel have become accustom to seeing pushed.  During the course of its existence The Dub Rebellion has watched and documented the rise of many artists such as Ponicz, Subject 31, Rez, and Stabby, as well as promoted early releases for well know labels including Circus Records, Blacklight Audio, Disciple, and Firepower Records.

A turning point for the channel came in 2014 when dubstep veteran Skrillex posted its video of Trollphace’s “Headshot Season” on facebook, an act that resulted in many new followers for the promoter, as well as a seemingly endless amount of submissions.

“The demand is so high when it comes to promoting. Everyone wants an upload, but it’s very difficult to accommodate so much great music. The true potential [is] in the underground, [there’s] so many creative styles.”

Despite the workload Darek is optimistic about the future; he is in the process of hiring more help on the social media side of things, and will soon be re-opening submissions to the public. He also plans to continue growing and pushing his independent label Octane Audio.
