The first year for festivals are always the best. The organizers haven’t figured everything out yet, the festival doesn’t have a clear identity and the people who come are there for the music, not as much the name. See Counterpoint last year and EDC Chicago. Even though it was cold and rainy, thousands braved the elements to dance the night away to their favorite DJs.
In 2014 the night looks like it’s getting cut a little bit short. Due the to numerous noise complaints echoed within the town of Joliet and surrounding areas, EDC Chicago will close earlier than 4 AM in 2014. The move has been expected all along, but today we’re seeing it being talked about at The Sun Times as well as a few other blogs.
Typically for outdoor spaces within city limits the music ends at 12 AM, while festivals outside of noise ordinance laws can get away with playing until the early morning. Lights All Night faced a lot of controversy last year when they were barely able to extend set times to 12:30 AM. This year they’ve moved locations so that they can accomodate fans needs to dance until the early morning.
EDC Chicago 2014 isn’t confirmed yet, but Rotella and the city have been very forward that they want to bring the event back. Whether it’s in Joliet or not is yet to be seen.
