Good news Chicago, Insomniac plans to make EDC Chicago an annual event. Pasquale Rotella’s promotional group is doing everything that they can to insure EDC Chicago’s return, safety and and maximize the return for the town of Juliet, Illinois.
Some of what good guy Insomniac has done:
- Commissioned an economic study to measure the impact on the local area economy
- Opened a camping option for concert goers who would prefer to stay close to the festival
- Provided employment opportunities while also paying a good wage (from the Chief of Police!)
In securing a permit for the privately held Chicagoland Speedway, the concern for illegal drugs was brought up by the local city council. It’s refreshing to hear a government representative come to a sensible conclusion on their own, without being influenced by the commonly found negative stigmas surrounding “raves”.
When City Councilwoman Jan Hallums-Quillman was questioned on the CDC report regarding the risks of rave-inspired events and Insomniac’s history her response was,
“It doesn’t make sense to reject (the event) out of hand based on something that happened three years ago.”
No Councilwoman Jan Hallums-Quillman it doesn’t. Thank you for being a voice of reason.
The whole town of Joliet seems to be supportive of the event.
Mike Trafton, Juliet Chief of Police,
“It’s great for a city like Joliet, all the added tax revenue for restaurants and everything else,” Trafton said. “It’s good for the city in terms of economics, and the same for our guys. They’re (Insomniac) paying a good wage.”
It should be noted that to ramp up security and safety, Insomniac will be paying for undercover police officers to prevent drugs from being brought into the festival.
Over 30,000 people a day are expected to attend EDC: Chicago. Tickets to the festival are still available for purchase
