Once again, EDC Las Vegas has set the bar for stages that will take hold and push every one of your senses to their limit with light, sound, and energy. There’s no other festival out there that takes such meticulous care of every single laser, firework, stage, and of course speaker like Insomniac does amongst the immense grounds of the Las Vegas Speedway. The stages play such a important role in the vibe of EDC Las Vegas due to being hosted from dusk till dawn, and every year we love going over some details of each stage.
kineticFIELD
It is hard to image what could possibly top kinecticFIELD from last year’s 20th anniversary, but where there is Insomniac, there is a way. This year’s theme was one of Mother Earth stretching her arms out while she was garnished with water, nature elements, and two colossal owls standing at 48 feet tall leading the way into the beautiful field of Headliners. Spanning 446 feet wide, and just under 100 feet tall, it was a beautiful and welcoming sight. With the lasers, visual screens behind her, and pyrotechnics that seemed to explode very few seconds engulfing you, it was another masterpiece by the Insomniac team.
cosmicMEADOW
Some come for the cool and relaxing lush green meadow, some come to get a great high view sitting in the bandstands, but whatever your reason, you could always find the perfect spot at cosmicMEADOW. Hosted by Audiotistic, it held no genre boundaries, whether is was Mija, RÜFÜS DU SOL, or Porter Robinson, every single artist took advantage of the massive visual panels coupled with 463 moving lights and 47 lasers. There was never a bad seat in the meadow.
circuitGROUNDS
Surround sound, surround visuals, surround experience. Although some fans may miss the giant hanger, or tent structure that used to be circuitGROUNDS two years ago, we are not one of them. Insomniac did it right when starting last year, they turned circuitGROUNDS into a stage that gives kineticFIELD a run for it’s money. A total 360 degree immersion of sound, pyrotechnics, and visuals. This year saw the likes of REZZ with some filthy techno, and Seven Lions bringing his sometimes chillstep, sometimes psy-trance, but always energetic and positive sets and we were blown away, and it’s easy to see how. With ~2,000 moving lights, 40 flame-throwers and an additional 1,200 pyro units.. just wow.
neonGARDEN
Tech yes. Having just recently returned from Movement, we were still in a techno and tech house state of mind, and as with last year, neonGARDEN was the place to be. Solardo, Jamie Jones, Pan-Pot, Nicole Moudaber, Lee Foss, Alan Fitzpatrick and countless others had us in a daze of techno. After seeing how Factory 93 hosted their Darkwater night-swim at DAYLIGHT on Thursday night, we knew that we were in for the perfect vibes. With a massive visual panel keeping lights and media to a techno minimum, along with strobe lights, lasers, and nobody can miss the massive disco ball as the main center focal point, it was once again, a place of zoning out and getting into the music.
bassPOD
Once again, and sadly for the last time, Headliners got to see the flames, the energy, and the electric current that has pulsed through the bassPOD robots for the last time, but it was another year for the books. With a 180 foot magma flame going off when you’d least expect it, although fans always complained about the heat, they, and us for sure, will miss it. This year’s lineup once again brought the heaviest bass, the filthiest electro house, and the most energetic drum & bass around. We have faith that next year can only get even better.
wasteLAND
While hardstyle may not be everyone’s cup of tea, you have to marvel at the sheer production value of a stage that every single year brings a completely different city or culture to waste. This year’s theme was Egypt, and with a massive wings-spread scarab that was equipped with 400 pieces of pyrotechnics, and 260 moving lights, it had Headliners dancing amongst the graffiti-covered stone pillars in awe, but never slowing them down.
quantumVALLEY
Last but not least, Insomniac introduced their newest stage quantumVALLEY. The #trancefam has been growing year after year, and it was time for everyone to lose themselves in a state of trance. Encased in a giant tent, the stage was equipped with 175 moving lights, 12 lasers, and 250 video tiles that no matter where you were inside, you were exactly where you needed to be. There was trance of new and old, including Paul van Dyke, Aly & Fila, Ferry Corsten, ATB, Simon Patterson, Cosmic Gate, and many others that showed that trance isn’t going anywhere, and neither is this stage for years to come.
We’ll see you next year in the Speedway!
