As a veteran of EDC Las Vegas for the past four years attending my first non-Las Vegas location, I was going into it a bit worried, and slightly apprehensive. What if Orlando disappointed me?
That was one of the most illogical thoughts of my life, because Orlando proved to be everything, just as Las Vegas does year after year.
Stages
Three main stages that includes kineticFIELD, circuitGROUNDS, and neonGARDEN spread across the different corners of the Tinker Field complex gave each the perfect spread and allowed for each to hold thousands of people for stages with varying genres of electronic music.
kineticFIELD
Spanning 230 ft wide by 100 feet tall, equipped with 10 flame blowers, 400 light fixtures, 28 lasers (you should have seen Eric Prydz’s set) this new fitted Crystal Village for the main stage, kineticFIELD was nothing short of engaging and breathtaking. Heavy hitters like Laidback Luke, Kaskade, Chuckie, Audien and more took us to another world filled bass, tremble, friends, and the family that greats us at every EDC.
circuitGROUNDS
Two years ago in 2014, circuitGROUNDS at EDC Las Vegas broke the record to be the largest clear-span structure in the world. But ever since then, even when you’re inside of the massive canopy of light, steam, and fire that feels like you are in the largest warehouse party of your life. Bassnectar, Crizzly (see in the pic above), Flux Pavilion, Alison Wonderland, Bassnectar once again… it was enlightening.
neonGARDEN
Sometimes you just want to vibe out. Sometimes you just want to do a little two-step. Sometimes you just want to go to neonGARDEN. Just the right amount of lights and visual entertainment to let you take in all of the techno, trance, and tech house vibes of Paul van Dyk, Justin Martin, Ilan Bluestone, The Magician, Eats Everything, GET REAL (Claude vonStroke & Green Velvet), and many others. Om.
Location
For most of us in the States, the first weekend of November brings rain, wind, snow at times, and no more foliage to enjoy. However, not in Florida. With being located just about half-way down the state, this sets up a perfect temperature of high 70s / low 80s (except on Day 2 this year which was abnormally hot with 90s and high humidity). What comes with these amazing winter temperatures is a lush green landscape that can only get better and better as Insomniac does so well. Decorated with Dandelion seeds, illuminated rides, and more daisies than one can count against the beautifully reflecting Lake Beardall, magic was in the air.
Artists
When you want a slue of variety with your festival experience, you never need to look farther than EDC. For instance, look at Friday’s schedule for circuitGROUNDS. Hosted by Bassrush, there was an insane amount of energy by Flux Pavilion, Snails, Crizzly, Dotcom, and more back to back to back, that it was hard to justify every leaving to go to another stage.
Or for instance on Sunday, neonGARDEN was teeming with the flock from Dirtybird including Eats Everything, Claude vonStroke, Green Velvet, Justin Martin, and more. Lake to our backs, illuminated pavilion above our heads, and a ever omniscent Buddha, everything felt just right.
And lastly, the biggest lights, the loudest sounds, and sea of beautiful souls for the main stage of kineticFIELD that brought some of the biggest names of all including Kaskade, Tiesto, Eric Prydz and more.
Wherever you are, and whatever EDC comes your way, whether it be Brazil, New York, UK, Mexico, or Japan, rest assured, it will never let you down.
