With the ‘EDM’ scene having been projected into the mainstream as of late, it is no surprise that Forbes would have included a handful of electronic music producers on their 3rd annual “30 Under 30” list, which recognizes 30 remarkable figures from 15 different disciplines, all under the age of 30 years old. Again this year are three dance music artists, named in the category for music, amongst the likes of Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, and Miley Cyrus, who are also tallied up on the list.
Not surprisingly Calvin Harris, at 29 years old, made the list again, being ranked the world’s top paid DJ by Forbes this past year, in addition to producing for numerous renowned pop stars, such as Rihanna. In a statement, Calvin commented on his success to Forbes:
“The rise of dance music has been astronomical in the last three years…I happened to be in the right place at the right time.”
24 year old Avicii also made the list again this year, with his massive tune “Wake Me Up” having dominated the airwaves this past summer, as well as having released his first full-length album, “True”, which brought a very distinctive, and inventive sound to the scene.
Lastly Zedd (also 24) was also placed on the list, having catapulted to success over the past year, with the omnipresence of his passionate, and emotional song, “Clarity”, as well as producing for big names such as Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber. To quote Forbes reporter Zack O’Mailey Greenburg; Zedd is “one of the hottest names in the burgeoning electronic music scene” with “plenty of pop appeal”.
