Even if you’re not a frequent visiter to White Raver Rafting or simply a casual music listener, you have no doubt witnessed the incredible rise of EDM. The genre has taken over the charts, radio, and pop music in general, with artists ranging from A$AP Rocky to friggin’ Taylor Swift to everyone in between. And it’s not just record labels and artists, including hip-hop DJs, who have caught on to the craze.
Business owners have been paying attention, too, which is made evident by how EDM has taken over nightclubs at casinos across the States. Whether in Las Vegas or Atlantic City, casino clubs and their owners are putting their focus on booking EDM artists and, for many of them, it’s paying off beyond what they could have ever imagined. In one example, the four clubs in a casino are making HALF of the entire place’s revenue. Needless to say, when we learned that fact, we decided to look at how that casino and four others have adapted to and taken advantage of EDM’s meteoric rise.
The Light Vegas
The Light Vegas is one of Sin City’s most prosperous clubs, and it resides in the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino. It was actually one of the first places visited by Spin during their report on the EDM boom in Vegas. They remarked that the venue transformed into a Day-Glo wonderland and even labeled it as a mega-club. Fitting, perhaps, given the fact it boasts an impressive 38,000 square-foot space. Beyond all that, there’s the killer lineup of acts coming through the club. At the Light, you can catch everyone from Skrillex to Zedd to Alesso—not bad right? Right. And that’s all within a few days of each other!
Revel HQ Nightclub
The HQ Nightclub is located in the Revel Resort in Atlantic City, N.J. Given its proximity to New York, this club basically has to over-achieve to be successful, right? Of course, and it does so by bringing in some of EDM’s best acts. We’re talking three nights, every week, featuring the likes of Afrojack, Benny Benassi, and Chuckie. Many of the others, including Bambi and Laidback Luke, are residents of the club, meaning you’ll be sure to see them more than once if you make HQ your go-to spot in the Atlantic City area.
Montbleu Resort Casino & Spa
In Reno, Nev., EDM artists and their rabid fanbases have found a home at the Montbleu. Every month they have been holding a show specifically for them as part of the Electrik Blu Full Moon EDM Party series. But in addition to that, one quick look at the calendar reveals that they also reach out to some of the genre’s best and brightest acts. Like Porter Robinson, the young North Carolina producer who is set to perform there on Nov. 30.
The Shrine at MGM Grand/Foxwoods
For all the New Englanders looking to get their dancing and gambling fix at once, the Shrine at MGM Grand/Foxwoods in Mashantucket, Conn. is for you. The Shrine holds weekly dance parties as part of its I Love Tuesdays series, which apparently features “the best DJs [and] hottest crowds.” While we can’t judge the latter, we can safely say they’re on to something when it comes to the former. The likes of A-Trak, Bingo Players, and Markus Schulz have all either played there recently or will play there soon.
Wynn Las Vegas & Encore Resort
Of all the casinos making bank off EDM, it looks like the Wynn in Las Vegas is the one raking in the most cash. According to the New Yorker, the venue’s four dance clubs are making the same amount of money as its gambling options. In 2012 alone, the four clubs made $180 million total and that is more than what the slot machines took in. Why? EDM, of course, as the Wynn took advantage of the genre’s popularity by championing its artists and DJs with an impressive roster.
But what if house parties are more your thing? Well, if that’s the case, we can’t blame you when you consider the amount of money you can save and the control over the music you can have. And just because you’re staying home doesn’t mean you can’t have the same experience of going to a casino. Head to Betfair.com to get your gamble on, because you can play everything from poker to baccarat, bingo to slots, and even get sign-up bonuses. That’s a pretty sweet perk if you’re a first-timer, and all you need from there is to make sure you have the right playlist ready.
