This year, Romania’s Electric Castle Festival initiated the Rain or Shine campaign which helped bring light into 26 houses from remote areas in the country. It is estimated that 100.000 houses in Romania don’t have access to electricity, and the most electric EDM festival decided to change the horrifying statistics. With help from NN Insurance Company and Free Miorita, but most importantly, with help from EDM fans, over 300,000 euros were invested in the campaign.
The idea came from Electric Castle’s “tradition” of happening during rainy weather and the disscution which revolved around the same question each year “How will weather be at EC this year?”. Organizers invited people to cast their forecast for the festival which hosted Deadmau5, Zedd, Franz Ferdinand, Duke Dumont and many others this year. Fans tuned in to choose between rain or sun and raised enough money to equip 26 houses with solar panels.
In the end, it didn’t rain at the festival this year and the campaign was a huge success. We can only hope that more festivals will take Electric Castle’s example and invest the energy and joy we all get from music into good causes all around the world!
