Electric Festival Aruba will make its debut this September 6, 7, 8 and feature island resident DJ Chuckie, Hardwell and Slash. More DJs will be announced to play the festival in phase two of the lineup. This years event is a soft opening of sorts with an expected attendance of around 800 people. Electric Festival will return at a larger scale in June of 2014 with 3,000 international attendees and an EDM Business Conference.
The promotion organized in part by the Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA) and Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) is designed to attract the high end market of gen-y and gen-x dance music fans. The remote location, breathtaking views and island ambiance should provide a unique escape for dance music fans in search of an escape from the routine options found in North America.
It’s important to note that this isn’t just a festival being thrown by a few people on Aruba, they have full support from the Aruba Tourism Authority and the Minister of Tourism Otmar Oduber.
“We have a cultural diversity, good flight connections and with Aruba being in the spotlight internationally we function as a ‘podium’ to attract visitors.”
They shouldn’t have any problem attracting visitors. Only two hours from Miami and four from New York, traveling to Aruba is a quick flight for North American travelers. Not to mention at the press conference DJ Chuckie said that he performed at his birthday party last year where over 8,000 people attended.
Years ago, Aruba was an exotic destination known only for its pristine beaches. Now they are pushing forward with initiatives like Electric Festival, Soul Beach Festival, Aruba International Film Festival and Aruba in Style, in order to showcase the full culture of the island to modern travelers. Our generation needs more than a beach. We want to get out, explore and share our findings. The Aruba Tourism Authority realizes that and DJ Chuckie is helping them position the island as the home for dance music in the Caribbean.
We’ll keep you updated with phase two, tickets and travel packages as soon as they’re available.
