If there were a Mount Rushmore of dubstep, Caspa and Rusko could very well be two of the four faces on it (Skream and Benga would be the other two, but that’s for another discussion). Two absolute dons, Caspa and Rusko are in one way or another responsible for much of the bass music you can’t get enough of.
These U.K. dub legends have been at it since their first releases in 2006 off the Dub Police label. Revolutionizing the sound as they go and bringing the slow, old-school dubstep we know and love to the masses, these guys did the dirty work and have paved the way for many artists today. The discography each of these two friends boast is nearly endless; Caspa’s “It Is What It Is” and “Reddy Eddy” are beloved staples, and Rusko’s “Jahova”, “Get Ya Cock Out”, and “Cockney Thug” among others have catapulted him to where he is today.
Late last year, these two announced not only their return to the studio, but also the pairing for a one of a kind touring run featuring back to back performances on the decks. Bringing the old-school dub sounds of ’07 to present day 2016, a Caspa B2B Rusko set has been on our wish list ever since their first show at LA last October. When the initial Electric Forest lineup dropped a few months back, we were ecstatic to see their names firmly tucked away in the bill. If it were up to us they’d be headlining, but maybe this will provide a diamond in the rough for any unsuspecting attendees this year.
Tracks like “Woo Boost” have stood the test of time, and Caspa’s remix of Deadmau5’s “I Remember” put him on the map internationally. What’s most exciting about this pairing is that it’s still very early on in the duo’s project. We don’t exactly know what to expect, and in our minds, that’s a great thing. These two are looking to take the US by storm this summer, and reinvigorate a bit of originality into dubstep while they’re at it.
If you’re a fan of the heavier side of music, there’s certainly options this year at EF. You got Bassnectar, 12th Planet, Bleep Bloop, G Jones and Liquid Stranger among others. However, this Caspa & Rusko set is going to bring something to the table completely unique from any of the sounds you can expect to hear over the course of the long weekend. Watching these two longtime friends work off each other and bring us back to the genre’s roots is going to be quite the treat. Combine the always rowdy stage presence of Rusko with the calm and cool demeanor of Caspa, and we’re on the edge of our seats counting down the days. This one is making a strong case for our most anticipated set of the festival, and we can’t wait to see you all there.
