Made Event announced the set times for Electric Zoo 2012 today, with the most noticeable item being the decision to slot Pretty Lights, Above & Beyond and Skrillex as the mainstage closer for each day of the festival. It was previously expected that the headliners would be David Guetta, Axwell and Tiesto. This marks a change from the scheduling trend that we have seen all summer at comparable marquee festivals.
Dancing Astronaut went on to say,
It seems Made Event is giving progressive house the finger — a rare and potentially controversial choice within the festival circuit.
You can interpret the decision in a number of different ways, but this is how I rationalize it based on my own personal opinion. Made Event is seeing a significant amount of new competition in the New York area through Insomniac creeping in with Electric Daisy Carnival and Sensation’s debut only a few months away. The decision was probably made to show differentiation for their product and that house music is a part of Electric Zoo, it doesn’t define it.
Pretty Lights, Above & Beyond and Skrillex are all so stylistically different, while their fan bases each represent a unique segment of the electronic dance music. Pretty Lights with his electrohiphopsoul, A&B’s group therapy experience and finally Skrillex the grammy winning producer who has longtime listeners up in arms. There’s probably a few Skrillex fans who can’t even name one Above & Beyond track, but that doesn’t matter because for three days we’re all going to come together at Randall’s Island to experience the music we love.
You can now create your own custom Electric Zoo 2012 Lineup, or download the smartphone application. The best advice that I can give you when going to a festival, is that your lineup is kind of like a guide book. You should follow it sometimes, but be open to exploration and trying new things!
