Electric Zoo: Evolved is is just a short month and some change away from once again taking it’s own corner of the concrete jungle. With a lineup boasting full of tastemakers like Eric Prydz, Flux Pavilion, Camelphat, Kaskade, and more, many of us can’t wait to become our spirit animals. Check out the daily breakdown by stage here. One artist that we are beyond ecstatic to see that will be joining Seven Lions’ Ophelia Records Showcase is Blastoyz. Psy-trance has been slipping back in to the forefront, from artists like Seven Lions, Armin Van Buuren and Vini Vici bringing a dazzling spotlight on the power that the genre truly has.
Based out of Tel Aviv, Israel, Kobi Nigreker hit the ground running at setting his own place at the table amongst the most beloved artists in the world of Psy-trance. After his brother and cousins introduced him to trance when he was just nine years old, it immediately captured his heart and he set out making his own tracks on the home computer. By the time he was 17, he built his own studio at home and had picked his moniker, Blastoyz. Before too long, he gained the skill to play at clubs and smaller raves across Israel. With the influence from artists that put the genre on the map like Infected Mushroom, Astrix, Eyal Barkan and others, Nigreker had a well of inspiration to draw from.
After attending school and then serving three years in the Israeli Defence Force, he released his debut EP, Something For Your Mind, on Geomagnetic Records in 2012. From there, Nigreker’s spirit was on fire and worked nonstop, releasing a slew of EP’s and collaborating with artists on tracks like “Mind & Spirit” with Mystical Complex and “Soul of a Gypsy” with Azax Syndrom Blastoyz, that rose to the top of Beatport’s top 100 Psy-trance. Nigreker quickly rose above the ranks and brought his own special concoction of psytrance to festivals like Burning Man, Airbeat One, Metagenesis, and the top clubs on Earth.
In 2016, Nigreker wanted to take his Blastoyz project deeper and really explore the realm of psychedelic sounds. With his Blastoyz + Friends Volumes 1 and 2 featuring peers such as Upgrade, WHITENO1SE, Azax, Berg and others, fans were introduced to even more interpretations of the genre. With Psy-trance being one of the less played out genres, it’s always an inspiring thing to see an artist help bring up those around them to let others and the community flourish.
These past two years, even more fans have gotten to get a taste of Blastoyz has to offer, with his collab track on Seven Lion’s “After Dark”, his remix of “Islands” and his most recent “Never Sleep” with David Gravell, which dropped earlier this month. It is clear that this artist has a whole universe he wants to show us and has the passion, skill, and ingenuity to take us there.
Blastoyz will be playing at Electric Zoo on Sunday at the Riverside stage. Check out our top picks from his discography below. If you have yet to pick up your ticket, you can get yours here.
