It’s the final countdown towards BangOn!NYC’s annual Elements Festival and you’re probably wondering what to expect at an event described as “Burning Man meets Bushwick.” Never mind if you’re a seasoned raver and have spent your summer navigating the festival circuit – BangOn!NYC events bring more to the table than your “average” mainstream fest, and we’re here to break down why.
Fire. Lots of it.
As one of the the core four elements, fire in all of its forms has a welcome home at this festival. Elements Lakewoods featured a stage with rows of fire surrounding the DJ booth, so we can only imagine what the next installment has in store. From fire spinners dancing with flaming wings and props to Incindia domes, 40-foot tall flame cannons jumped by BMX bikers, and a 30-foot long fire breathing dragon… need we say more?
Festival fashion at its best.
We’re unsure if it’s because of all the uber trendy Brooklynites or if Elements just brings out everyone’s inner fashionista but you can be sure to see some of the best festival fashion in the game at any Elements festival. We’re talking platform boots, painstakingly bedazzled hats, neon fur coats, and remarkable amounts of glitter. Whip out your glue gun and crystals if you want to take part, or just hit up one of the vendors and pick out your next festival staple.
A pirate ship.
The people of BangOn!NYC have a thing for pirate ships, and while we may not have understood it at first, we’re definitely not complaining. Dancing on a boat is one thing, but dancing on a pirate ship with a bunch of burners and a guy dressed like Jack Sparrow is a completely different experience. Obviously the East River isn’t exactly the open ocean, but that shouldn’t stop you from hopping aboard and shaking (or stealing) some booty.
These guys.
Wander around Elements for a little and you’re almost guaranteed to run into these two – Timothy Monkiewicz and Thomas Murphy, known throughout the scene as The Golden Pony. When they’re not bringing their nu-disco vibes to festival sets across the country, they’re running around NYC planning and producing BangOn!NYC events for the good people of Brooklyn. Check out their set at the the Water Stage at 4:00 pm on Saturday or just say thanks if you catch them in the crowd.
All of the things to climb on.
Vertically challenged people, rejoice! Gone are the days of fighting your way to the front or asking a stranger to put you on their shoulders for a chance to see above the crowd (not recommended.) BangOn!NYC events specialize in providing a wide array of sculptures to climb in, around, and on top of. An abandoned school bus doubles as the perfect look out to climb atop of, and tiki bars have hidden stairways leading to the roof.
