Eric Prydz persists as one of the most innovative and creative producers in electronic music. For New Year’s Eve, Prydz made his debut at Echostage in Washington D.C and once again blew his fans away. In a bit of an unprecedented move, Prydz has released his entire set for free on Soundcloud. Clocking in at a whopping 178 minutes, the set weaves through Prydz’s various styles and his several alter egos. From bass-bumping tech house to uplifting progressive melodies, Prydz once again demonstrates his deep understanding of tying songs together and flawlessly transitioning from one to the next; the entire set sounds like one massive song.
Releasing this set for free marks a great step in breaking down the stereotypes associated with New Year’s Eve celebrations. Considered hot commodities by promoters, New Year’s Eve concerts suffer from exorbitant pricing (most notably seen in Tiesto’s NYE show in Miami). By giving away this set for free, Prydz gives all his fans a luxury that most promoters consider to be worth hundreds of dollars. Sure, listening to it at home is clearly not the same as hearing it on an elaborate sound system and ringing in the new year with the man himself. However, releasing the set gives his millions of other fans a chance to at least listen and indirectly experience his live show. In an age where more and more DJs balk at the idea of giving away sets and songs, Prydz proves to be one of the most forward-thinking artists once again. Listen to the set below:
