Evidence, aka Michael Perretta, released his second solo album on September 27, 2011. Titled Cats & Dogs, it’s the follow-up to his solo debut, The Weatherman LP. Ev has never been one to spit the craziest/fastest rhymes; he’s referred to himself before as “Mr. Slow Flow,” which does apply in a sense, but I think it’s more a testament to how he carefully crafts his message into his lyrics. The album itself juxtaposes his darker solo tracks with some chiller collaborations, including a few produced by one of my personal favorites, The Alchemist. Overall, I’m left reminiscing about the now-defunct Dilated Peoples, a group Evidence was formerly affiliated with. However, there are still a few great tracks to take away from this album, for which I’ll include links to stream below:
Evidence feat Raekwon & Rass Kass (produced by Alchemist) – The Red Carpet
Evidence feat Krondon (produced by Sid Roams) – Well Runs Dry
Evidence feat Slug & Aesop Rock – Late For The Sky
“Late For The Sky” is definitely my favorite track from Cats & Dogs. In the intro, you overhear someone in busy London talking to a friend to get a ride to Heathrow airport. The song then begins, sampling Jackson Browne – “Late For The Sky”, before the smooth beat drops in, and Slug (of Atmosphere) comes in for the first verse. The song only gets better from there as it progresses.
All-in-all, this is a solid release by Evidence and I’m glad to hear he’s still doing his thing. Follow him on Twitter or check his fabo for more info. Check http://hiphopisdream.com/evidence-cats-dogs/ for links to download Cats & Dogs.
