‘Mainbeat’ opens with a funky drum pattern and then quickly moves into a deeper beat, buildup, and progressive drop. Once this six minute track gets going there is no turning back. A light vocal sample rings in the background alongside a simple synth stab. There is a lot going on here, but the most complex songs often turn out the be not only the most interesting but the most entertaining.
Eximinds does a fantastic job at keeping a pattern and maintaining the groove. Just before the four minute mark a vocal-esque synth screech – that I’ve been hearing in a lot of tunes lately – moves in for the kill. To me ‘Mainbeat’ flirts with trace-y electro and a hint of progressive. Regardless this is one of those records that you can’t put a label on, just sit back and enjoy it for what it is.
