As we head into festival season, we were beyond stoked to attend Buku Music + Art Project. Great city, great artists, great vibes; what more do you need? Over 30,000 people crowded the stages of Buku. And despite the 100% chance of rain the entire weekend, the crowd raged on!
This fifth year of Buku truly outdid itself from it’s past years; incorporating a huge hip-hop element, a huge variety of amazing food and activities that kept everyone entertained. Located each year at Mardi Gras World along the Mississippi River, the festival has a sort of “industrial meets natural” sort of setting, providing a memorable backdrop that made people feel a part of the city. The festival included four different stages, some like Power Plant geared towards the hip-hop scene and others like the Float Den gearing more towards the edm scene. While the rain surprisingly subsided, we were blown away by the planning for inclement weather; most stages were indoors and tents overhang the outdoor walkways. The combination of overhangs and concrete floors kept everything dry and ravers happy! The art was absolutely incredible, as guests got to witness it come to life each time they walked by. Not only was the music and arts fantastic, but the atmosphere is what brings people back each year.
With some incredible names this year, attendees had a lot to look forward to. Starting off the day right on Friday were artists G Jones, CHVRCHES and Anderson Paak. Moving further into the day we transitioned into some feel good music with Above and Beyond, Tchami and Illenium. Closing out the night, back to back artists Griz, AlunaGeorge, Baauer, Deorro kept the crowd amped and moving, completing the end of day 1 with a bang.
Round two on Saturday set the bar even higher, with NGHTMRE absolutely killing it to start off the day. Moving further into the day were artists What So Not, Prince Fox, Future, Feed Me, Yellow Claw, Pretty Lights, Datsik and more.
