Dutch DJ and producer Ferreck Dawn, also known as Freek Coppens, has been turning tables for 13 years now and his name has become famous. He released hits on several labels, including Spinnin’ Records exclusively nowadays, produced a collab with Redondo and worked on a busy schedule lately. He has made some outstanding releases in his solo career during the last few years and now his new record ‘Superman’ is coming out on Mike Mago’s imprint BMKLTSCH.
This super funky single, sounding like the ultimate house track, is just perfect for the relaxing hour and also matches the festival season. Its deep beat provides strength mixed with fresh sounds. It’s mysterious and loose, made for dancing and the fans are already dying for more.
Ferreck Dawn took his time to answer some questions for us, in which he talks about his experiences and his time in the music scene. Be sure to check it out!
What genres did you grow up around?
This may come as a shock but I spent hours listening to hardcore music as a kid. When I started DJing I played hardstyle and oldschool music. After doing that for a few years I was done with that and made a 180 degrees switch quitting hardstyle all together and started focusing on house music.
Chill house genres are definitely on the rise, what are your feelings on the current state of chill genres in 2015?
I really like it, I love the fact that guys like Kygo brought a fresh new sound, great to see house music keeps evolving. To me it depends on the bpm. If the music is played at around 105-110 bpm, that for me is too slow to dance to at a festival but great for enjoying it at home. Guys like Sam Feldt are combining deep house with tropical house influences and playing it out at around 120-125 bpm, that’s great for festivals as the songs often get the summer vibe going.
Whats the coolest thing that has happened this year?
Playing at a rooftop bar at the 56th floor in Jakarta Indonesia was really cool, amazing view and very cool vibe. Also playing in a club in the Burj Khalifa in Dubai was awesome!
Will you be collaborating with anyone between now and the end of the year?
I have a number of collabs coming up. I’m releasing a collab with Franky Rizardo in 1,5 month and we are finishing up the follow up. Other collabs scheduled are with Rene Amesz, Camelphat, Mike Mago and Redondo. Busy times 😉
How did you the relationship between you and Mike Mago’s label BMKLTSCH transpire?
I met Mike back in December 2014 when we both played at Egg London. We had a little afterparty and spoke about releasing music on the label. I sent Mike the Superman track and together with Spinnin we were able to clear the vocal and have it released.
What type of food do you like to eat before and while in the studio?
I’m a huge fan of tomato soup, I eat it almost every day as my lunch. During studio sessions it’s mostly fruit and nuts but definitely large quantities of chips as well.
If you could Dj at any location on earth where would it be?
Playing on Time Square in New York would be something special. Or on the busiest crossing in the world, the Shibuya crossing in Tokyo.
What do you think is influencing your growth most in 2015?
The level of my productions. I’m giving it my all, spending hours in the studio every day really pushing things to the max.
Any cool plans you’d like to share for this year and 2016?
New tracks, new tracks and more new tracks 🙂
