The long awaited documentary about Ferry Corsten’s rise to being one of the most influential DJ’s in the world is finally available on Youtube. There has been a recent wave of documentaries, whether a full film or a series covering the journey of artists such as Amy and The Defiant Ones, and Gouryella – From the Heavens is a definite watch to add to your queues. The bio pic covers almost two decades of Corsten’s work under multiple aliases, the most influential being Gouryella. The film clocks in at 52 minutes and is available on Youtube only, for now, but will be coming to other viewing platforms very soon. It’s comprised of shows that he performed under the name Gouryella throughout the world. One of the main focuses of the film depicts how Gouryella, originally a duo with other Dutch favorite Tiësto, before Corsten continued solo and how it was at the center of the EDM movement in the Netherlands.
It all started from six tracks they threw in on together like, top charters “Gouryella” and “Walhalla”. They paved the way for EDM to take form and to bounce off of, bringing in strong elements of melodies, unheard of arrangements, and playing with texture. The ultimate goal of the documentary was to show in full detail the story of how Corsten transformed into the esteemed artist the world knows him to be. Appearances from fellow artists like Armin Van Buuren, Paul Oakenfold, and Above and Beyond in the documentary further explore how Corsten’s humble project became a huge, influential force. We also see what went into Corsten’s decision to bring back Gouryella after being shelved for 13 years. We’re filled in with how it was decided to move the act from the studio out to the main stage for arena shows back in 2016.
