While the rest of the country is wrapping up the festival season, Florida festivals are just getting started. Here’s a list of six Florida festivals to help you close out 2013. Each is a perfect reason to leave wherever you are and make a trip down to the Sunshine State before Ultra / WMC.
Basslights (Oct. 18- 19)
While this isn’t a bona fide festival, it’s a two-day event you won’t want to miss. Bassnectar and Pretty Lights will play back-to-back shows at the Klipsch Amphitheater at Bayfront Park in Miami for two nights in October.
This is the third time the duo has teamed up to bring BassLights to life. The first BassLights was in Alpharetta, GA in 2011 (except it was called PrettyBass), and then last year’s event in Virginia ended up being hugely successful.
The opening acts for the Miami BassLights feature big names, too, like PANTyRAiD, Run The Jewels (El-P and Killer Mike), Koan Sound and SuperVision.
General Admission tickets are about $82 and include both nights of BassLights. You can buy them here.
Club Cirque Festival (Oct. 19)
Two words: Circus Rave.
The same group that introduced Sunset Festival to Tampa earlier this summer is bringing another new festival to Tampa Bay.
The website said several big-top circus tents will be erected around Raymond James Stadium and will house contortionists, aerial acrobats, sword swallowers and a bunch of other crazy circus performers.
The main tent will be hosted by the Aokify North American Tour and will include Steve Aoki, Borgore, and, um, Waka Flocka. The bass tent will feature Crizzly, School Boy, Nerd Rage and Torro Torro. Other artists will be announced soon, and will likely include at least one other big name and several other trap artists.
Let’s hope, for my sake, that they don’t bring any clowns.
Tickets are a little more than $30 right now, but that price is expected to jump after the presale ends. You can purchase tickets here.
Hulaween (Oct. 31- Nov.2)
The String Cheese Incident is headlining a three-day festival in the middle of fucking nowhere, known to some as Live Oak, Fla. Big Gigantic and STS9 will be joining the electro-jam band for Hulaween 2013, which will be held October 31, November 1 and November 2.
No other artists have been announced yet, but you can expect to get funky in the swamp with these three acts.
The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park is an amazing venue, which is important because each ticket comes with camping. It’s all outdoors with romantic Spanish Moss dripping from 100-year-old oak trees and the famous Suwannee River bordering the site to the north.
Tickets are available here and cost $159 while public presale still lasts. Once the presale ends, tickets will be $189.
Rivalry Music Festival (Nov. 1)
The day before the second-most contentious college football game in Florida may sound like odd timing for a festival, but Rivalry Music Festival is banking that tailgaters will want to rage before game day.
It’ll be in Tallahassee’s Westwood Plaza the day before Florida State University takes on the University of Miami in an always-vicious rivalry game. (Note: UF vs FSU is the real Florida Rivalry, but hey, let’s give Miami something to look forward to)
Major Lazer, Carnage and Tritonal are headlining the one-day festival, and other artists are expected to be announced soon.
General Admission tickets are $35 and can be found here.
EDC Orlando (Nov. 8- 9)
The always-popular extension of Electric Daisy Carnival is returning to Tinker Field this November.
Although no artists have been announced yet, last year’s lineup included Armin Van Buuren, Tiesto, Porter Robinson, Morgan Page, Markus Schultz, Bassnectar, Borgore, Afrojack, Krewella, R3hab and Tritonal…just to name a few.
General Admission tickets are $169.70 after fees, and you can buy them here.
*Advice: If you want to save on a hotel room, try staying in Kissimmee or another Orlando suburb. The further you get from Disney, the cheaper the hotels will be.
Life in Color Festival (Dec. 27)
Life in Color, which bills itself as the “world’s biggest paint party”, will come to Miami for the first time this December via the Sunlife Stadium.
No artists have been announced for the Miami date yet, but the Washington, D.C., Life in Color Festival will feature Adventure Club, Nicky Romero, Afrojack, Borgore, 12th Planet, Cazzette, R3hab and Savoy.
If the D.C. lineup in any indication, Miami festival-goers can expect several big names with some trappy, bass-heavy openers.
Tickets are $75 for general admission and can be found here.
