Flosstradamus brought the fire to Washington DC when the 2014 HDYNATION Tour hit 930 Club this past week.
Kicking the night off was DC’s own DJ Money who had no problem getting the crowd moving; playing an energetic set infused with trap and to my surprise, some house. With hits ranging from Sandro Silva & Quintino’s “Epic” to DJ Carnage’s “Brick”, he didn’t hesitate to get the crowd pumped up. Next up, ATL’s Two-9 took the stage and was a little disappointing. After the start of her set, Curtis Williams would come out to rap, but would often stop the tracks and have Curtis attempt to hype up the crowd, only to play a different song afterwards. Unfortunately, Two-9 was lacking the energy needed to follow DJ Money.
At around 11pm, the anticipation rose as a black curtain was removed from the stage revealing the Hdynation Tour junkyard scene complete with a Honda Accord, with flashing headlights and the warning sign stamped on the windshield. Lights flickered as a Floss themed intro was heard throughout the venue. Taking the stage J2K (Josh Young) assumed his position in the front as hype man, and Autobot (Curt Cameruci) took his position behind the booth. The volume turned up, the bass rumbled, and the energy level rose to new heights. Favorite moments included when they dropped classic favorites such as “Rollup” and “Test Me”. They also treated us to an impressive unreleased rework of Lil Wayne’s “ A Milli” and a killer remix of Jack Ü’s “Take U there”. There was no lack of crowd participation, namely when they started to play their smash hit “Mosh Pit” where they split the crowd in half and instructed them to rush to the middle as soon as the drop hit. With a hardcore buildup that went straight into the classic drop the crowd literally turned into a mosh pit.
Flosstradamus really knows how to make a connection with a crowd, so everyone there feels like they’re partying with their crazy turned up hdyfamily. From having J2K sporting the fan-made kandi he had the crowd throw on stage, to constantly dousing the crowd in water, they engaged the crowd from beginning to end. As a Floss fan myself I already expected the night to be great, but they exceeded my expectations and really delivered. At the end of the night, they let us know that DC had some of best energy they’ve seen on tour yet, and from what I saw I’d have to agree. Overall I’d have to say that they made HDYGRLZ and HDYBYZ proud to be fans and a part of HDYNATION.
