“Story Tellers Part 2” is Floyd Lavine’s expansion of the Afrofuturistic sound on the Afrikan Tales label. Lavine, who is an artist of a new African generation, continues exploring truth, identity, and story-telling through his freshly released EP. All of the songs reverberate powerful staples of African culture, traditional and complexly diverse, including a robust variety of percussion instruments, ritualistic chanting, and the ability to blend a rich mixture of sounds effortlessly.
“Mr Bones” is a raw, tribal track that seeps into your body and soul through its rolling bassline and hypnotic vocals. It allows you to connect with your most primal self and experience the sophisticated beauty of modern African music in its most free-flowing form. Subsequently, “Black Jesus” is a soulful song with a funky piano rift that speaks on the past and future of Lavine’s African heritage, a concept of tradition and religion, while exploring what the future might sound like. The last track, “Big Bad Guns feat. Thabo Sage,” spotlights haunting vocals that seem to illustrate deeply personal reflections from both Lavine and Thabo Sage’s lives. It is a truly unique, experimental album that doesn’t conform to any rules and tells quite an interesting and surrealistic story. You can buy the album HERE and experience the journey for yourself.
“Each label release is about me expanding on the sound of Afro. As a surrealist, I want to push towards a surrealistic sound of African electronics. For me the art of music is exploring my truth, reflecting my environment and finding the unknown in the known.” – Floyd Lavine
