Today BBC published a news piece announcing that “Wake Me Up”, the lead single off of Avicii’s debut album “True”, has sold over a million copies. While this milestone is eye-opening and very well deserved, it’s among three other notable achievements. From BBC’s well written article I’ve pulled out a total of four interesting facts about Avicii’s single that you probably weren’t aware of.
1. “Wake Me Up” has sold over one million copies as of October 6th.
2. It entered the Official UK singles chart at number one when it was released in July.
3. It is only the 140th single to reach that milestone in British chart history.
4. “Wake Me Up” is the fastest-selling single of 2013 so far (267,000 copies in its first week).
What do you think about “Wake Me Up” and Avicii’s debut album? Let us know on Facebook, Twitter, or in the comments section below.
“Having the fastest-selling record of 2013 is obviously a huge deal to me. I never thought being on the Official Chart was an option for my music. Dance music has its own things; we have our own charts and lists, so just having a number one is insane.” – Avicii (via BBC Radio 1 Interview)
