With the release of his latest track “SW9 9SL,” Four Tet shows that he has no plans of slowing down. Coming only weeks after the release of “Planets,” “SW9 9SL” is a track that was manufactured for the dance floor.
While the name of the track may seem clunky or unfeeling, the track is anything but. It begins with an ethereal (is it possible to write about Four Tet without using the word ethereal?) sounding synthesizer swirling around in the background. The softness is quickly counteracted by a popping bass line that is skillfully layered over the track’s dreamy background, upping the track’s danceability and mingling between its smooth synths. The track is built up with baroque twinkling bells and a slew of percussion before being broken back down into a bass line so shockingly smooth that you may have to restrain yourself from breaking into head bobs. Be warned: this track is one that will be mingling inside your head and throughout your body for weeks to come, so prepare accordingly. Clocking in at 7 minutes and 55 seconds, “SW9 9SL” is a genre traversing composition with the power to make time seem to slow down and our moves on the dance floor speed all the way up.
