“Hello, my name is Frank Walker” is stuck to the forehead of rising talent, Frank Walker, on the cover art of his new EP “24”. The Toronto based artist has been making music since 2014 but took a social media hiatus for a couple years, which is why he is new to our ears. The Frank Walker we have come to know is someone that has been in deep head space for the past year, experimenting with new sounds and ways to produce music. Frank dropped “24” just 24 hours before his main stage performance at this year’s Ultra Music Festival. We see what you did there, Frank.
This album has this interesting balance between house, future house, and future bass. His strength with this EP is finding the best voices to pair with the intertwining genres, culminating into an excellent showcase of what he can do. The first song, “Angel Falls” is a nod to his rock music roots, with Sterling Fox’s rougher touch on vocals and heavy use of different percussion samples. “Less Lonely” takes on a more upbeat, future house feel, with a slow build with electronic piano and interflowing rhythms. We then drift into “Love Me Close”. Sad Science’s voice makes us feel like we’re floating and then she’s coupled with guitar melodies and gentle beats that almost teeter on the tropical house side. “Young” completes the collection with a heartfelt track that we’re sure will fit your summer anthem playlist perfectly. Andrew Lincoln’s voice is joined with a chorus and the track has the classic, slow future bass composition.
This EP is well designed, well thought out, and well loved. We can’t wait to see what Frank plays around with next. According to his interview with Billboard Magazine, his grandma is his toughest critic, so we know that his new music to come will have the ultimate stamp of approval.
“24” is available on Spotify and iTunes.
