As the EDM industry continues to be an annual multi-billion dollar revenue, fraudulent schemes are unfortunately inevitable. After the recent development of the most infamous of festival scams, Fyre Festival, you’d have to be foolish to try and pull your own variation. Say hello to Starfest Music Festival, a small-scale, unfolding disaster. Red flags were waived when the festival initially came to light, with promotion starting a mere 28 days before the apparent show dates. More inside information started to surface from talent agencies as “headliners” had no show dates or mentions of the festival on any of their social medias, including deadmau5, Carnage (who has a tour stop that day in Georgia), and Flo Rida.
With non-refundable tickets starting at a steep $135 for GA, this Texas festival pushing a phony lineup is undoubtedly looking to make a quick money grab. Co-founder David Taylor has been deflecting ticket sale questions and the all-ages festival is swiftly transpiring into a reproduction of Fyre.
“I think the fact that the festival has so many of the dots not lining up is a genuine concern so that’s why I wanted to make people feel aware. It definitely feels like a scam and maybe even a less upscale version of Fyre Festival”
