If you like your weird, wobbly underground bass music to have a savory hint of trap, odds are you’ve already became very familiar with the man G Jones. Hailing from Santa Cruz, CA, the rising star is fresh off his insane remix of Bassnectar’s “Don’t Hate The 808” and has been throwing down all across the country further solidifying himself as a name to remember.
Hot off the press today is Greg’s latest piece of work, his aptly titled “New Beats 2015” mixtape. Containing 19 of his own unreleased original tracks, you’re taken on a 40 minute journey to see what kind of sounds we can be expecting from Jones in the near future. If this mix is any good indication, then we can feel confident having G pave the way for the new sound in bass music.
Trying to pigeonhole his style of music into any single genre will prove useless, as you’re hit with equal parts bass, trap, and trip-hop; the only thing you can do is sit back and enjoy the boundary pushing beats. The second track into the mix (which is without a name as of today) is trademark G Jones with the patented bleeps and bloops, and “Ned Flangers” while released as a preview a couple weeks ago serves as just another mean mugging track to nod your head to.
Click play up top and give the mix a listen. Jones has never been hotter in his entire career, especially fresh off the news that he’ll be opening on Bassnectar’s historic three night Red Rocks run in May. Stay on the lookout for Jones popping up on the summer festival circuit and stay up to date with us as we keep our fingers crossed for more quality tunes like this in the near future.
