“Gallant is the future. When I heard him sing live for the first time I cried – white doves fly from his vocal cords.” -Jake Udell
Los Angeles’ 650-capacity Echoplex venue was packed from when doors opened, anticipated to catch the new R&B artist who is with no doubt ready to take on the spotlight. This young artist has already made great strides in his early stage of career without an official label debut. Every now and then Th3rd Brain gifts us with a new element of surprise — this time taking on a new direction, presenting Gallant, the finest singer/songwriter who we can call the future of music.
Gallant stepped out alone to excited applause and started with his cover of Foo Fighters “Learn To Fly. The performance, accompanied by a full band with drums, keys, and bass that constantly sounded stellar, instantly became intimate as he showed off his sexy vocals right from the beginning continuing on with “Manhattan.” Without shying away from his sexy high falsetto, Gallant sang extemporaneously, by inventing variations on his own melodies, rhythms, and harmonies.
The young R&B prince heated up the venue with a set that spanned his recent hits, while showcasing his vibrant voice. With only a few years of live performances, his stage presence was that of a fully seasoned performer, having the full capable of giving the audience what they wanted visually and vocally. Old and new fans alike grooved together as Gallant continued to belt out “Siren” from his Zebra EP.
From an emotional stance, it was probably Gallant’s flawless performance of “Open Up” and “Talking In Your Sleep” that stirred the crowd the most. They are his greatest songs, performed exactly as it was intended to be. Everyone knew every last word and sang them with passion.
To conclude the night, Gallant closed with his newest track “Weight In Gold” which was the night’s highlight, upping the ante with ad-libs that were about as close to deep as Gallant went through the night.
