I have a ton of respect for Gareth Emery, even more so now, after he took to Facebook just an hour ago to tell a story about a phone call he got in regard to the DJ Mag Top 100 poll. In short, instead of spending an outrageous amount of money on an advertising campaign, he’ll open a poll where his fans can vote on which charities he’ll donate the money that he would have spent.
This is a bold action and I’m sure it’ll set some of his fellow DJ’s on the same path and mindset, at least I hope it does. Over the past few years the DJ Mag Top 100 polls have lost an insane amount of credibility due to cheating. At the end of the day it isn’t about ranking high on a list and I’m glad that Emery understands that. His Facebook post, which you can read in full below, describes this situation more elegantly than I ever could. I encourage that you all read it.
