Thomas Slinger, better known as Gemini, is a producer/DJ from London. He has recently released another EP to add to his rather impressive discography. You may be familiar with, ‘Blue‘, ‘Without You‘, ‘Graduation‘, and ‘Fire Inside‘, but now it’s time to get acquainted with ‘Mercury’. Known for his heavy bass music, Slinger’s ‘Mercury’ EP will provide you with some of the hardest hitting dubstep and electro house to date.
The five track EP begins with ‘Freedom’ and ends with ‘3D Romeo’, two records you may have already heard because they’ve been separately premiered. ‘Freedom’ provides the perfect start to the adventure that Gemini has planned for his listeners. With an upbeat opening the track moves to a darker vibe, then transitions to a quick build up and finishes with an electro drop that will have your head bobbing and your feet shuffling. On the other hand, ‘3D Romeo’ serves as the closing record and attempts to satisfy Thomas’ dubstep fans. The tune offers some extremely light wobbles, but still keeping on par with his electro based EP.
Aside from the tracks you might already know, you can expect to hear three new originals on Gemini’s ‘Mercury’ EP. ‘Losing My Way’, ‘Robots’ and ‘Second Law’ fill the core. ‘Losing My Way’ gets the award for most sinister sounding record, the down-tempo beat alongside a female vocal and dripping melody screams evil. Beatport labels it as dubstep, but the track dosen’t seem to have too much of a wobbly influence. ‘Mercury’ is filled with heavy hitting tunes, but ‘Second Law’ might be the hardest one. Wasting no time the opening punches you in the face, the melodies keep on pace with the evilness of the five track work, and the drop will send you into a coma if you play it loud enough. ‘Second Law’ and the last new record off ‘Mercury’, ‘Robots’, are in a tie for my favorite track on the EP. ‘Robots’ is just an all around quality record, it gives off a big room vibe and has a female vocal to pushes it over the top.
Over all the ‘Mercury’ EP has to be one of my favorite releases going into the New Year. It was released on November 19th via Inspected Records and is available now on Beatport and iTunes.
