Updated 4/14 with full Gent & Jawns set from Diplo & Friends
In this mix, Billy & Long show why they’ve been dominating the DMV (DC/Maryland/Virgina) for years. Flawless transitions & great song selection, combined with some interesting surprises (Bird Machine/Technologic mashup, International Player’s Anthem) is only part of what places Gent & Jawns ahead of many others in the field… their biggest weapon comes in the form of their quick mixing chops – in the span of 90 seconds you can hear G&J/Nadastrom collab ‘Snake Juice,’ Tridinad James- ‘All Gold Everything’, Steve Aoki & Alvin Risk – ‘Beat Down’, and JWLS – ‘Bashin’ (and that’s just one example). 60 minutes of straight fire, enjoy!
This duo has been on a tear lately and will have an hour long guest mix featured on Diplo & Friends tonight at 8pm EST – BBC Radio 1. Here’s 5 reasons why you don’t want to miss it:
1. ) Quality over Quantity
Gent & Jawns‘ ‘Express Yourself’ remix & ‘Turnup’ are arguably the 2 biggest trap songs to date, and their track ‘Vibrate’ has been one of the most beloved and played out moombahton anthems for the past few years.
2.) ‘Butter’s Theme’ Video Debuted on PotatoWillEatYou (Collab w/ Diplo)
Heavily steeped in the Gent & Jawns sound, ‘Butter’s Theme’ was the first song for which a music video was released on PotatoWillEatYou. Not only was it the first video that Diplo, Skrillex, and A-Trak decided to release through their new media outlet, it featured a cameo by the one and only Ellie Goulding.
3.) They’re fresh off tour with Major Lazer…
And are sure to have something up their sleeve. Gent & Jawns, who have been a staple in the DC/ Richmond, Va scenes, are Diplo’s best kept secret.
4.) Killing it Quietly
So far, Gent & Jawns have been a relatively quiet duo in the scene, releasing only a handful of tracks, not playing too many shows, and refusing to become social media whores **cough Dillon Francis cough ;)**. Because of this, they’ve remained a bit mysterious in the public eye, and their level of talent has not truly been appreciated by the masses quite yet. Consider this set their coming out party.
5.) Diplo & Friends doesn’t disappoint, ever.
Diplo’s weekly radio show is nothing but fire from a tastemaker who continues to reinvent himself. From Avicii’s recent game changing throwback mix to hour long trap music heaters from names like GTA and Bro Safari, the Mad Decent frontman has proven that he owns the Saturday night time slot.
Side note: Billy and Long built a brand (Brain Drain) in the mid-atantic as a part of the group Audio Ammo, which included Dj Doddie, Bobby LaBeat, Cranks and Ohlaroc. They’ve been performing for years and are genuinely well-versed in live mixing with a prestine knack for song selection in just about about every genre you could imagine.
Unlike many artists rising from the current edm explosion, Gent & Jawns mastered the art of dj’ing before they rose to the occasion as talented producers. Expect them to truly break out in the remainder of 2013 as live phenoms.
