If you’re on the East Coast and love wobble, womps, and glitch you gotta check out the creative blend of sound that is the Astronaut School Tour. Distinct yet cohesive, both Freddy Todd and Space Jesus make you bounce and groove in different yet awesome ways.
Freddy Todd
The glitch-hop that Todd deals is sonically diverse, no easy feat for the genre of glitch which can tend toward the repetitive. Todd doesn’t allow himself to be constricted by genre and his productions reflect that vision. His tracks vary from bouncy to brooding while hitting all the stops on the spectrum in between. Check out his Shambala set from last year for an in-depth sample of his musical palette.
Space Jesus
Hailing from South Jersey but lamping in Brooklyn these days, Space Jesus has carved out space in the East Coast bass scene with his fresh takes on electronic music. His productions also defy genre restrictions as he creates everything from dubstep, to psy-trance, to future-trap, to a remix of the Grateful Dead. No challenge seems to faze Space when it comes to innovating his sound. Check out his most recent bootleg pack below.
Welch Brothers
If the musical firepower still has you debating making it out to one of these stops then the Welch Brothers being on Stage Design should be enough to make you buy a ticket. If you made it up to Great North this year you may have seen an installment of theirs.
The Welch brothers Jeremiah and Gabriel are an artist duo currently residing in San Francisco. They come from a background in art with a father who was a muralist and their mother and sister who started a clown business. Graffiti, street art, and music were their preferred forms of expression that eventually melded into the fine art that they make today.
This is the only picture I can locate of their stage design from a stop on this tour courtesy of the Space Fam.
The tour will be pulling into Hoboken to rep Space Jesus’ home state on February 12th. Check em out if you have a chance!
