Why do we love Krewella? Is it because they always make a crowd go wild during their live sets with integrative crowd interactions and larger than life stages? Is it because of their incredible remixes? Or is it because of their ingenious marketing campaign for their first full-length album, Get Wet?
Krewella gained worldwide success through their Play Hard EP which featured huge hits like “Killin It” and “One Minute”. Since the release of their EP, they became known for their incredible hybrid live DJing style. Not only do they live mix, but the girls also sing vocals for their own tracks.
Their latest hit, “Alive” was picked up by Hardwell for an official remix that became a huge success and recently W&W remixed their single from Get Wet “Live For The Night”. So, with all these achievements wouldn’t Krewella’s album just fly off the shelves by itself? Krewella knows that it takes more than having an extraordinary product, you have to give back to fans and give people a reason to want your album and that’s exactly what they did.
Krewella put on an impressive campaign that started a month before the release of Get Wet in which they gave fans a new surprise every Wednesday. We will outline these five campaigns that not only gave fans new music to soothe their Krewella fix, but also gave fans an incentive to want their new album.
Pre-Order Get Wet
Getting pre-sales for an album is extremely difficult, and almost near impossible. For fans that pre-ordered the krew’s debut album, the track “We Go Down” was made available for free download. Krewella also gave-away free tickets to Insomniac Event’s Nocturnal Wonderland for those who pre-ordered the album.
#GetWet Wednesday #1: Tweet for Party Monster
For the first #GetWet Wednesday, Krewella launched a countdown on their site that unlocked a free download of stadium-banger “Party Monster”, and fans went wild. Within the first 30 minutes, the meter was already well above 1000 tweets. The meter unlocked at 5000 tweets, which only took a few hours.
Krewella didn’t disappoint with the free track either, it’s a song that could easily become a huge hit and fans appreciated their generosity.
#GetWet Wednesday #2: Fans Choose Pendulum Cover
On the Monday before the next #GetWet Wednesday, Krewella tweeted a request for fans to choose their favorite Pendulum song for Krewella to do a cover of.
On Wednesday, Krewella surprised fans by releasing a free download of a beautiful acoustic cover of Pendulum’s song “Watercolour” featuring piano talents by Evan Duffy. This served to hype up not only their new album, but also Pendulum’s upcoming project.
#GetWet Wednesday #3: Fall Out Boy Remix
For the following #GetWet Wednesday, Krewella released their genre-crossing remix of Fall Out Boy’s “Alone Together”, this huge remix features vocal talents from both of the Krewella ladies as well as Patrick Stump’s easily recognized voice.
With the release, they teased that there would be a track on the album that features Fall Out Boy, an iconic rock group that carries a loyal fan-base, many of whom are now avid EDM-listeners. This rock-electronic blend is something many have attempted, but few have achieved Krewella’s level of balance.
#GetWet Wednesday #4: Pegboard Nerds Collaboration & Live Album Stream
For those of you who have been avid fans of Krewella, you probably heard Pegboard Nerds incredible remix of “Alive”. For these two groups to come together for a collaboration is not only huge, but special because these two promoted each other. “Alive” got bigger because of Pegboard Nerds, and Pegboard Nerds got a lot of recognition for remixing such a popular song. For the final #GetWet Wednesday, Krewella released a free download of “This Is Not The End” with Pegboard Nerds.
Krewella also gave fans an exclusive listen of their new album, all the way through. This was incredibly smart because every album leaks about a week before its release, but Krewella was one step ahead and leaked it themselves.
Over the span of a month, Krewella gave out five tracks for free download. Each track was unique and showed off a different aspect of Krewella’s immense talent. Not only did they give fans new music, they’ve been releasing exclusive behind-the-scenes videos via Vevo, and teasing their enormous “Volcano” stage to increase hype for this album. Krewella has showed fans that their debut album is a project that has been born from their immeasurable love of the electronic scene, as well as promoting a new and different aspect of electronic music that fans haven’t really seen before.
If that’s not enough to entice you to buy the album, Krewella’s got a few more tricks up their sleeve. With purchase of the full album, fans will be able to enjoy two never-heard-before bonus tracks.
