Charlie Yin, better known as Giraffage, has spent the last month embarking on a tour in support of his latest Too Real album. His tour has introduced a new live set up which includes all original music and remixes, futuristic stage design, and as he has previously stated on Facebook, “good vibes all around.” We recently had the opportunity to catch the Too Real show at Crescent Ballroom in Phoenix, Arizona, and we can confirm that all of the above is true, the live set up was a game-changer, the stage design was out-of-this-world, and the Ballroom radiated with positive vibes.
Giraffage was joined by good friends and fellow talented producers, Wingtip and Sweater Beats. The feels-fueled night began with the disco electro-pop sounds of Wingtip. Wingtip had the crowd fully engaged and awestruck, dropping his beautiful vocal original “Cross Your Mind” and of course his most popular hit, “Rewind.” His performance was then followed by the genre-blending maestro, Sweater Beats. Sweater Beats opened up his set with Panic At The Disco’s “I Write Sins Not Tragedies”. From this point on, his set was unpredictable, but in the best way possible. He flawlessly mixed an array of tracks, while simultaneously playing on a drum pad and electric guitar. He had the crowd belting to Porter Robinson’s “Sad Machine”, getting a little freaky with Ginuwine’s “Pony” which he then transitioned into Mura Musa’s “Lotus Eater”, and played everyone’s favorite song, San Holo’s “Light” with Kanye West’s “All Of The Lights” peaking through. Sweater Beats concluded the set with his love song “Altar (feat. R.LUM.R)” and broke into a guitar solo as his grand finale.
After a quick intermission aka drink break, we were welcomed by the man of the night, Giraffage. Giraffage wowed the audience with his downtempo electro and R&B melodies, incorporating work on the keyboard. He opened up with his dreamy synth-pop driven original “Tell Me”. The feels fest continued with originals from his Too Real album, including “Slowly”, “Green Tea”, and even a melodic rendition of Soulja Boy’s “Crank That”. The futuristic stage design really shined during his performance, the rings surrounding the stage lit up to every beat, as the LED screens flashed with whimsical images. Talent aside, Giraffage ( Wingtip and Sweater Beats also) was very engaged with his fans during and after his set, even taking the time to chat and take photos following his performance.
