Check out this exclusive interview we did with gLAdiator out of Los Angeles; where we talk delicious beats, trap music, marketing for artists and when their new EP is coming out.
1) Who is gLAdiator? How did you two form a group and when did you start producing?
gLAdiator is Danl Goodman and Ian Johnson, two LA boys with some turntables and a dream. We formed up after a highschool’s worth of friendship to make delicious beats. We started producing electronic music about 3, 4 years ago.
2) When did you start producing trap music? Is there a specific song or producer you heard that set you on trap?
It was that Original Don remix by Floss. That shit set off the trap bomb. Homies like Hudmo, Lunice, and FlyLo had been making stuff like it for a minute but it took the simplicity of that remix for producers to be like,
Okay, this shit is turnt up as fuck.
We started playing trap in our sets and then when Harlem Shake blew up, we decided to try our hand at producing trap tunes.
3) What has been the best way for you to share and market your music with new fans?
Give it away for free through Facebook, no question.
4) Any comments on DJs who buy fake fans or twitter followers?
Twitter followers and Facebook fans don’t mean shit if those people don’t come to your shows/support your music/actually participate in your career. Buying fans does nothing but stroke your own ego.
5) What can we expect from gLAdiator in the future? Anything big you want to let our audience know about?
We bout to go on tour! We comin’ to a city near you REAL soon. Check the FBook page for updates and shit and expect to see us round da US of A come Traptober! We’re also going to be releasing an EP with Livemixtapes.com and Trap-a-holics set to drop around mid-October, so keep a look out for that as well.
