The 2022 edition of Governors Ball just recently wrapped up another exciting event at the Citi Field in New York, and the theme that was portrayed across the venue was “You’re Doing Great!”. This simple phrase was brought out by good vibes and sunshine throughout the whole weekend. For 11 years straight, Governors Ball continues to prove itself as New York’s premier music festival.
This year’s lineup featured headliners Kid Cudi, Halsey, and J. Cole, as well as a slew of other talented acts listed on the undercard. Spanning across three stages, music lovers were graced with iconic performances from a wide range of genres, with some highlights including: Channel Tres, Louis The Child, Jack Harlow, Peach Tree Rascals, DJ Diesel, Denzel Curry, Joji, Flume, JID, Clairo, Japanese Breakfast, Kaytranada, and so much more!
To close out Friday night, headliner and Grammy winning artist, Kid Cudi performed an electrifying set, performing songs from “Man On The Moon 3” live for the first time, with a mix of some of his greatest hits. Kid Cudi also brought out frequent collaborator, Chip The Ripper, as they performed their hit song “Just What I Am”. The crowd was packed with diehard Cudi fans who waited at the main stage for practically the whole day, to snag a spot at the front. Security and onsite paramedics made sure to distribute free water to these fans, as frequent hydration reminders were also displayed throughout the festival. Cudi, with smiles throughout his performance, proved to be one of the weekend’s best performances!
Saturday’s lineup of performers included standout acts like Still Woozy and Tove Lo on the main stage who were definite cloud pleasers. NBA legend Shaquille O’Neil brought out his moniker DJ Diesel as he absolutely annihilated the Barcardi stage with an hour long set packed with crowd pleasing trap anthems mixed with underground dubstep bangers.
For the second night, instead of catching headliner, Halsey, we decided to end the night with Flume who closed out the “GoPuff Stage”. The Australian musician put on an unforgettable set, packed with stunning visuals and lighting that worked perfectly as golden hour was ending and the night was setting in. He performed new songs from his brand new album, “Palaces” and also brought out singers Laurel and MAY-A to perform live on stage. Flume closed out the second night with a powerhouse performance which featured a number of hit singles, stunning visuals, and beautiful lasers that brought out a range of emotions from the crowd.
Day 3 started with some concern as their were ominous weather reports and light rain scattered throughout the morning, but despite these minor issues, fans were still able to enjoy mostly sunny weather on the final day.
During the day time, we were able to catch English indie rock band, Glass Animals, who performed a very vibrant indie-pop set as lead vocalist Dave Bayley ran across the stage to read hilarious signs and laugh with the crowd between songs. Their stage design was one of a kind! A giant hotel swimming pool with neon signs and even a basketball hoop. This was definitely one of the most fun sets we saw all weekend!
Closing out the last day of the festival was none other than J. Cole, who performed songs from his latest album “The Off Season” sprinkled with tracks from his expansive six-album catalog, along with some of his mixtape cloud pleasers. J. Cole also brought out collaborators, J.I.D. and Kenny Mason on stage to perform their latest banger, “Stick” as various mosh pits formed all throughout the crowd.
It’s sad to say that Governors Ball is officially over and we have to wait another year to experience that much fun again. The love that we got from the crowd was something I’ve never seen before. It definitely felt like a whole community of great vibes. Transportation to and from the festival was one of the easiest I’ve ever dealt with, as we took the train from the city each day. And the performances from each artist were all top notch!
We can’t wait for next year! Hope to see you there! And always remember, You’re Doing Great!
