While I was attending Farm Fest in NJ I got to talking with our neighbors and one of them mentioned a festival in Maine with GRiZ headlining. With his crazy Hudson set still fresh on my mind I checked it out when I got home and was immediately impressed with the lineup touting names like Tipper, GRiZ, and Conspirator to name a few. I checked out their website and while watching the video below I saw a ton of live painters and installations that I thought deserved more attention. I looked into this year’s lineup and collected my favorite six artists that will be attending this multi-dimensional festival.
Alex and Allyson Grey
Alex Grey is a painter from Ohio whose work I’d describe as psychodelic-geometrical-skeleton-universe trippy art. He attended the Columbus School of Art and Design in the 70s but did not finish. He moved on to the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston where he met Allyson Grey in 1975 and became life partners. Allyson specializes more in geometric and colorful trippy art and the two tour and do live paintings at festivals.

Cosmic Karma Fire
These are the guys who never heeded their moms’ warnings of not playing with fire. Well look at them now mom. This crew is a huge assembly of all sorts of pyrotechnics. They have your traditional fire poi and fire breathers but I watched their video below and saw a guy on a bicycle and a lady with a massive fire whip ala the Balrog that Gandalf fights in the first Lord of the Rings movie. You won’t be able to miss this crew at GN.
The Welch Brothers
The Welch brothers Jeremiah and Gabriel are an artist duo currently living in San Francisco. They come from a background in art with a father who was a muralist and their mother and sister who started a clown business back when clowns weren’t scary. Graffiti, street art, and music were their preferred forms of expression that eventually melded into the fine art that they make today.

Yedi Fresh
I wanted to bring some variety to this group and Yedi Fresh was the perfect candidate. He creates incredible murals with spray paint that range from positive messages to colorful, futuristic cartoons. Definitely someone to look out for as I’m sure he will be doing a massive wall piece or dope installation.
Check out his tumblr here.
Bild Art
Bild Art is self described as a “Wood Melting Wizard Creeper” who colors and plays with blocks all day. His installations consist of massive crystals and paintings. You will not be able to miss these uniquely colored and illuminated structures as your tour the grounds.
Check out more pictures on his Facebook.
Samuel Farrand Art
Samuel Farrand is a digital artist and graphic designer who could be considered a “local” talent raised in New Hampshire. He creates digital illustrations that are expressions of ancient and contemporary culture, geometry, divine proportion, spirituality, architecture, symbolism and nature.

Great North seems to be fighting the industry standard for music festivals to focus solely on the lineup. If this lineup is any indication, this seems like a fest that will bring a more well-rounded artistic experience. If you’re in the Northeast I definitely recommend it. Tickets still available.
