GRiZ has been one of the many DJ’s that is keeping our spirits up through his livestreams, both through online festival curations such as Proximity’s Room Service and Beatport ReConnect, as well as on his own Discord channel. The Detroit native, Grant Kwiecinski, has been opening up genre avenues and we love strolling down the new streets. We’ve been waiting to see what he would deliver for the fifth edition, with Bangers[4].zip giving us an incredible range. On top of his new Bangers.zip series, his chart topping Ride Waves album, and highly sought after collab “Griztronics” with Subtronics, Kwiecinski delivered yet again with his house tune, “Could U”, that released on AC Slater’s Night Bass earlier this year.
Bangers[5].Zip EP brings three tracks that have been teased in his sets as well as a new iteration of, “My Friends and I”, first appearing in his 2016 Good Will Prevail album and again featuring Snoop Dogg on Ride Waves. The intro track, “The Baddest”, will immediately get your booty shaking and your bass face slapped across your mouth. With wavering synths and deep 808, it’s the perfect recipe to get our video chat parties started. Bringing in ProCause and Chrishira Perrier, “My Friends and I”, gets a funky bass house facelift that really brings the energy. The fact that this song has been switched up so many times and sounds fresher than the last is a testament to GRiZ’s production ability. Before coming to a close, we get blasted off one more time with his trippy “Spaceship Ride”. We can all agree this one has been the stunner of his sets. Otherworldly melodies, slick lyrics, and a bumping rhythm creates a surround sound experience, earning it’s place at the end. Always save the best for last.
