GRiZ has dropped another teaser track in anticipation for his 2019 album, Ride Waves, teaming up with rap mogul Wiz Khalifa on the radiant “Find My Own Way”. Just like the fans of Game of Thrones have been anxiously waiting for winter to come, GRiZ devotees have been creeping on his socials for new music with 2018 only having one EP release, It Gets Better/Can’t Get Enough. Slowly like building with legos, GRiZ has been dropping cookie crumbs leading up to the big album set to release April 5th. In January we got a refresher course in how he still slays on that sax with “I’m Good”. Last month, GRiZ and Matisyahu paired up for “A New Day”, giving tribute to the victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
This past Friday, GRiZ got our weekends started right with “Find My Own Way”, a laidback ride that has us dreaming of summer days. With the help of Harlem’s Gospel Choir, we feel ourselves transported into this bright space that has us looking forward to what is to come. Warm piano notes carry us on a cloud as Wiz inspires us to keep going after what we want most out of this life. Towards the end of the track, everything slowly fades into the background and we get a real sense of being in his community back in Detroit, with just the drum line percussion section and the choir bringing us up to a final shimmering note. All of these elements come together and create an inspirational theme song fitting for any day.
