After waiting an agonizing four months since the teaser for this epic funk track was released, Grizmatik has finally made all of our Mondays that much less unbearable with the disclosure of the full version of “My People”. Since reporting yesterday that the epic funk collaboration of Gramatik and GRiZ was due for some new tracks, much speculation has preceded the release. Questions such as why was the track held as unreleased for so long despite the presentation of other tracks and works in progress, and what is significant about today that made the duo choose to release it are still in the air. Although such questions will just have to remain in speculation, we couldn’t be any more excited to have this track in our libraries for many more listens.
Featuring the previously described “funky soul with claws” throughout the track, I must say that I have yet to be the least bit dissatisfied with anything to come out of this musical culmination of genius. “My People” is comparable with Digital Liberation is Mad Freedom, their last track, only in the guttural vocal sample of “GRIZMATIK” that precisely bisects the musical climax. And if new-funk awesomeness isn’t enough, the track is available for free download. You can be sure that we will be fanboying like madmen for more releases from these two idols of groove in the months and years to come.
