“What up? This is Derek Vincent Smith it is time for another episode of The Hot Sh*t.”
Ahh, the most welcomed words in the electro-soul community uttered at the introduction of each installment of Derek’s weekly series. There are only three certainties in life: Death, Taxes, and The Hot Sh*t. The sultan of all things soul, each Friday DVS treats his fans to the freshest, funkiest beats known to mankind. With each mix seemingly better than the next, Smith keeps listeners on their toes by mixing in some trademark classics, tracks from up-and-comers, and a general carefree attitude when it comes to abiding by any particular genre.
In this weeks’ Episode 122, we’re taken along on an hour long journey through one of the most brilliant minds in music today. Starting off with a soothing and melodic vibe, Smith leads off with “Change Is Gonna Come”, a classic off his debut solo album Filling Up The City Skies. Always bringing the energy along from his gang at PLM, multiple tracks from Break Science, Paul Basic, and Michal Menert make an appearance later on. Bringing the heat towards the middle of the mix off ACMOTS is “Color Of My Soul” (Paul Basic Remix), and closing it out with unmistakable horns is “Throwback” from Menert and Break Science.
If you don’t religiously follow Smith’s weekly series, well, it’s better late than never. A new episode of The Hot Sh*t comes along every Wednesday (for you lucky SiriusXM listeners) and every Friday on Soundcloud.
