Between the seamless entry, spacious dance floor, satisfied crowd and insane DJ sets, Electric Candy Land at Stage 48 threw an EDC after party to remember this past Friday night. I was warmly surprised by how tame-yet-eager the crowd was, especially for an 18+ show, which in my opinion are usually difficult to handle. Maybe it was the exhaustion from the day’s events that caused concert goers to behave better, but overall, I was impressed. For me, an evening in which I don’t have to escape the center of a mosh pit or avoid the flailing limbs of a crowd surfer is considered a successful one.
Openers DJ CRASH and DJ SANiTY, followed by Mavis & Berg and TRIF3KTA, started the long night off right – doors were open at 10:00pm and the club didn’t clear out until after 5:00am. For someone who didn’t attend EDC during the day, I expected to see energetic, vibrant attendees wearing their rave clothes. I was shocked to see a calm majority of people wearing simpler concert-wear, like jeans and t-shirts – myself included. Stage dancers were dressed much more elaborately, of course, decked in red & white polka dots and rainbows while handing out actual ice pops to crowd members.
Hard Rock Sofa put on a delicious electro-house set from 1:00 am-3:00 am, and I couldn’t have asked for a more well-rounded, high energy performance. By the time DJ BAMBI went on at 3:00am, the crowd was certainly thinner, but the music was not. I literally feel proud of the female community on behalf of Eva Shaw, who threw down some of my favorite electro records. These two tweets might help you understand –

Despite how swimmingly the night went, Hard Rock Sofa and BAMBI absolutely warranted a larger crowd. Not that I have anything against extra dancing space, but a sold-out show would have been well-deserved, and I think others who went to the show would agree with me.
